emmi - Waiting Times Data Exchange System

eMMI - Waiting Times data management

System Summary

Client: NHSE(NW), on behalf of North West Region Health Authorities and Trusts

Written in Access 97 and Access 2000, this system supports all the Health Authorities, PCTs and Trusts within the old North West Region in the sharing and submission of waiting times information.

Previous to the implementation of this system, waiting times information in North West region was faxed and emailed between organisations, with no standardised data formats.

Developing the system involved getting all partners to agree on a standard data format and then producing a database which allowed data to be exchanged between local copies of the system.  The biggest beneficiaries have been the regional office and more recently the three new Health Authorities. Use of the system means they don't have to key in submissions from dozens oforganisations on a monthly basis.

The latest version allows HA's, PCTs and Trusts to exchange data beween themselves. A mechanism is provided for semi-automated HA submissions to the DoH. There are also performance management reports available, specific to each organisation type.

Key Benefits

  • Region wide standardisation of waiting times information. This enables ease of submission within the organisational structure of the NHS/DoH.
  • Significant productivity gains at regional office.
  • Interactive checking of waiting times information, both for consistency and against target values
  • Standardisation of data format allows for easy addition and changes to waiting times variables
